Overview
- The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events is accepting tree nominations through Oct. 23 and asks owners to email dcase@cityofchicago.org with at least one distance photo, one close-up, contact details and a short history of the tree.
- Candidate trees must be at least 45 feet tall and located within 50 miles of the Loop with a preference for trees within 15 miles of downtown Chicago.
- The city prefers Norway spruce or fir trees and will not consider pines because officials say pines are not sturdy enough for transport and installation.
- The selected tree will be transported to Millennium Park, decorated ahead of a lighting ceremony scheduled for Nov. 20, and will remain lit through Jan. 10.
- Local artists and small businesses can apply to sell at the Millennium Park Holiday Market on Nov. 20–22 with vendor applications open through 5 p.m. on Oct. 18, creating seasonal sales and visibility for downtown makers.
