Chicago Man Shot by Police After Allegedly Striking Officer With Truck Faces Attempted Murder Charge

  • Officers responded around 2:10 a.m. Saturday to reports of a fight and shots fired at a business in the 3100 block of North Central Avenue.
  • Carlos Sanchez-Roa, 28, was seen in a red pickup and allegedly accelerated the truck toward officers, striking one whose injuries were treated on scene.
  • Officers fired at the vehicle, later finding Sanchez-Roa with multiple gunshot wounds near his truck on the 3200 block of North Menard Avenue and transporting him to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition.
  • Police recovered a firearm from the truck and charged Sanchez-Roa with attempted first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer.
  • The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the shooting and has placed the officers involved on 30 days of administrative duty.
