Chicago Man Charged With 19 Felonies After Stolen Ambulance Chase

A detention hearing is set for Monday following a police pursuit that prompted a civilian oversight review.

Overview

  • Police say Lamont Hill, 59, stole a Cicero Fire Department ambulance outside Loretto Hospital and led a roughly 30-minute pursuit across the West Side.
  • A paramedic inside the rig jumped out about two blocks after the theft as the ambulance struck multiple civilian vehicles and at least three CPD squad cars.
  • An officer discharged a weapon toward the ambulance during the pursuit, and authorities said no one was struck; COPA opened an investigation.
  • The chase ended near Chicago and Cicero avenues, where Hill was arrested around 4:03 p.m. and taken to Mount Sinai in good condition.
  • CPD listed 19 felony counts, including vehicular hijacking, kidnapping, aggravated battery to a peace officer, attempted disarming, aggravated fleeing, and criminal damage; three officers and four others sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
