• Darius Barney, 25, was arrested just after 12:40 a.m. Sunday on the 800-block of East 63rd Street and charged with first-degree murder.
• Police say he fatally stabbed the 71-year-old victim in the abdomen following a dispute outside a BP gas station at 63rd and Wentworth before fleeing more than a mile away.
• Surveillance footage reportedly shows Barney approaching the older man while panhandling and pulling a knife from his purse without provocation.
• The victim stumbled into the store and died at a hospital; he has not yet been publicly identified.
• Barney is due in court Tuesday and police continue to investigate motives and related knife attacks across the city.
