Overview
- The assault occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on June 19 in the 5800 block of North Kenmore Ave. when a man was beaten in the head with a blunt object
- A 911 caller reported hearing screams and a threat of “I’m going to kill you” before a motorcycle sped away from the scene
- A passerby who discovered the victim in the alley initially believed he had been shot and medical staff later confirmed severe head trauma at St. Francis Hospital
- Police arrested 49-year-old Roosevelt McCree on June 21 at his home on the 600 block of West Elm St. and charged him with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm
- McCree’s detention hearing is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse where prosecutors will seek to hold him without bail
