• Kenneth Williams, 23, was arrested July 21 in the 2600 block of South California Avenue and booked on attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery by firearm charges.
• Police say the June 24 incident began just before 10 p.m. on the 3000 block of South State Street after a dispute between a white SUV and the girl’s family.
• Investigators allege Williams fired two shots at a vehicle carrying the 8-year-old, striking her in the leg.
• Chicago Fire Department medics treated the girl at the scene before she was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in fair condition.
• Williams is scheduled to appear Wednesday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse for a detention hearing.
