Chicago Hosts Official Mexican Independence Day Festival Downtown

The two-day celebration aims to replace disruptive car caravans with a family-friendly event at Grant Park.

For the first time in a decade, Chicago will hold an official Mexican Independence Day celebration downtown, organized by local Mexican leaders and city officials.
The festival, taking place at Grant Park’s Butler Field, will feature food vendors, activities, and performances from local and international artists.
City officials and organizers hope the event will provide a regulated and dignified alternative to the car caravans that have caused traffic and safety issues in previous years.
The celebration will include a free civic ceremony on Sunday night, hosted by the consul general of Mexico in Chicago, at the Petrillo Bandshell.
Chicago police have developed a safety plan, encouraging attendees to use public transportation and warning against unauthorized street closures and caravanning.
