Chicago Gears Up for 66th Air and Water Show With Thunderbirds and Golden Knights

City agencies have issued comprehensive transit, parking and safety guidance ahead of hot, humid weather with a risk of afternoon storms

The Chicago Air and Water Show will take place on August 16–17.

Overview

  • The free show runs Aug. 16–17 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at North Avenue Beach with a public rehearsal on Aug. 15.
  • The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and S. ArArmy Golden Knights will headline alongside military and civilian acts honoring the Army and Marine Corps’ 250th anniversary.
  • CTA is boosting service capacity, rerouting the No. 72 bus and coordinating Metra lines while lakefront parking remains closed with discounted Millennium Park Garage shuttles available.
  • Forecasts call for highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s with heat indices near 100 and a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms that could delay or shorten performances.
  • Organizers have designated safety zones over Lake Michigan, set up temporary shelters, installed pole markers along the lakefront and will offer live audio descriptions for visually impaired attendees.
