Overview

  • Camp Courage is a free, three-day program offering local teens hands-on introduction to firefighting and emergency medical services under Chicago Fire Department professionals.
  • The inaugural cohort of 300 participants aged 13 to 18 began training July 7 at Engine 88 in Gage Park with equipment demonstrations and physical drills.
  • Training includes hose handling, rescue simulations, CPR instruction and Stop the Bleed workshops that mirror real frontline operations.
  • Four additional firehouses and two city locations will host sessions through July 30, with registration open via an online form or by emailing cfdcampcourage@cityofchicago.org.
  • Each cohort will cap off the program with a graduation ceremony and receive guidance on pathways into the CFD’s high school outreach and academy programs.
