Overview

  • The three-month pilot closes Milwaukee Avenue between the Damen/North intersection and Ashland to motor vehicles on the last Sundays of August, September and October from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Bicyclists will use the street’s center lane, pedestrians will occupy parking lanes and sidewalks will host pop-up sales by local businesses.
  • The Chicago Department of Transportation is overseeing barricade deployment and the CTA’s No. 56 Milwaukee bus route will bypass the closure zone during event hours.
  • Volunteers have been recruited to support wayfinding and manage foot and bike traffic along the half-mile corridor.
  • Pilot outcomes will guide whether Meet Me On Milwaukee returns or expands in 2026 based on its impact on community engagement and local commerce.
