Chicago Father Charged With Murder in Death of 2-Month-Old, Ordered Detained

Prosecutors cite an alleged confession to punching the baby alongside medical findings of severe blunt-force trauma.

Overview

  • Chicago police say Anthony Evans was arrested this week and charged with one felony count described as “Murder - Strong Probability Death/Injure.”
  • A Cook County detention filing states Evans told detectives a demon hurt the baby and that he punched the infant.
  • The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide, citing bleeding on the brain, spinal cord and eye hemorrhaging, facial bruising, rib fractures, and internal bleeding consistent with blunt-force trauma.
  • Prosecutors say Evans returned the child to the mother in a covered stroller on April 28, told her the baby was sleeping, and doctors later estimated the infant had been dead for six to eight hours.
  • The filing also details earlier incidents in February and March involving alleged violence against the mother and concerning injuries to the baby, and a judge has ordered Evans detained pending further proceedings.
