Chicago Enacts Grant Park Closures and Transit Boosts Ahead of Lollapalooza

Officials have finalized bag checks, gate timings, late-night transit schedules to support festival operations.

  • Most major streets and sidewalks around Grant Park have closed through early August, including Jackson Drive from Columbus Drive to DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
  • The Chicago Transit Authority will run the Yellow Line until 1 a.m., add extra bus service and reroute Michigan Avenue buses to manage festival traffic.
  • Daily gates at Michigan Avenue and Ida B. Wells Drive and at Monroe Street and Columbus Drive open at 11 a.m. and close at 10 p.m., with wristband re-scans required for re-entry.
  • Festival organizers have confirmed a bag policy that allows clutch purses up to 6"×9" without requirements, mandates clear bags up to 12"×6"×12" for larger items and permits empty hydration packs.
  • Grant Park’s dog park and tennis and pickleball courts will remain closed until early August, with a temporary dog park set up southeast of the skate park and courts reopening August 5.
