Chicago Begins Street Closures Ahead of July NASCAR Street Race

Officials have trimmed the buildout schedule to 25 days to reduce disruption for residents and businesses.

Overview

  • Street closures in and around Grant Park begin at 12:01 a.m. on June 19 and will extend through July 14, when all demolition and teardown work is expected to wrap up.
  • The weekend will feature an Xfinity Series race on July 5 followed by the Grant Park 165 Cup Series race on July 6.
  • Organizers reduced the overall preparation window to 25 days this year, compared with 38 days in 2024 and 43 days in 2023.
  • Full shutdowns of DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive will begin July 3 to accommodate the installation of fences, grandstands and hospitality suites.
  • Northbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive are scheduled to reopen at 6 a.m. on July 7, and officials say businesses and residences will remain accessible throughout setup, race weekend and teardown.
