Chicago Bears Appoint Eric Washington as New Defensive Coordinator

Former Buffalo Bills Coach Returns to Chicago, Where He Previously Served as Defensive Assistant and Line Coach

Eric Washington, who has been with the Buffalo Bills for the past four seasons, has been hired as the new defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears.
Washington previously worked with the Bears from 2008 to 2010, serving as a defensive assistant and later as a defensive line coach.
Chicago has been without a defensive coordinator since Alan Williams resigned in September 2022 for personal reasons.
During his time with the Bills, Washington helped the team rank in the top-10 in multiple defensive categories, including total and passing yards allowed per game, sack rate, interception rate and points allowed per game.
Washington's hiring is the latest in a series of staff changes for the Bears, who also recently hired Shane Waldron as their new offensive coordinator.
