Chiapas Security Sweep Yields 11 Police Charged, 145 Released as Cintalapa Mayor Arrested

Prosecutors link the operation to December bar attacks in Villaflores that intensified scrutiny of local forces.

Overview

  • Authorities reviewed 156 municipal officers from Cintalapa, Jiquipilas and Ocozocoautla after coordinated raids involving the Mexican Army, National Guard and state agencies.
  • Eleven officers were judicialized for alleged misuse of decorations, uniforms and insignias, with files also open into possible halconeo under a strengthened statute.
  • The remaining 145 officers were released under reservation of law after control-and-trust and file reviews of 101 men and 55 women.
  • Investigators seized about 200 cell phones and doses of a marijuana-like substance during searches tied to the case.
  • Separately, sitting Cintalapa mayor Ernesto Cruz Díaz was detained on corruption and abuse-of-authority charges with a parallel probe into possible criminal links, and ex-mayor Enoc “N” was arrested over an alleged armed takeover in Tapalapa.
