Chhattisgarh Unveils ₹52,000-Crore Bastar Plan With NMDC Anchor, Rail and Road Build-Out

Officials cast the package as a development pathway to end Maoist violence by March 2026.

Overview

  • At the Bastar Investor Connect in Jagdalpur, private proposals topped ₹967 crore with a potential to create more than 2,100 jobs across healthcare, agriculture, food processing, tourism and allied services.
  • Public-sector commitments dominate the package, led by an NMDC outlay of about ₹43,000 crore that the state positions as the region’s investment anchor.
  • Indian Railways detailed ₹5,200 crore in projects, including the new Raoghat–Jagdalpur line costing ₹3,513.11 crore and the doubling of the Kottavalasa–Kirandul corridor to boost connectivity and freight capacity.
  • Road works worth ₹2,300 crore aim to link all seven Bastar districts, including an alternative corridor via Abujhmad and Barsur to Bijapur to shorten travel times and improve access to services.
  • Healthcare plans include an Invitation to Invest for a ₹550 crore 350-bed private hospital and medical college in Jagdalpur, alongside a ₹200 crore super speciality facility, under a policy that adds incentives for SC/ST entrepreneurs and wage support for firms hiring surrendered Naxalites.
