Overview

  • The Economic Offences Wing’s July 7 supplementary chargesheet named 29 officers in a covert “Part-B” liquor network and revised estimated state revenue losses from ₹2,161 crore to over ₹3,200 crore.
  • On July 10–11, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s administration suspended 22 serving excise officials—including assistant commissioners, deputy commissioners and district excise officers—who were chargesheeted by the EOW.
  • Investigators allege the suspended officers diverted untaxed country liquor to 15 government shops and collected kickbacks totaling more than ₹88 crore between 2019 and 2023.
  • The Enforcement Directorate has arrested former excise minister Kawasi Lakhma and provisionally attached assets worth ₹6.15 crore as it expands its probe into the scam’s money-laundering dimensions.
  • CM Sai framed the action as part of a zero-tolerance stance on corruption and signaled further administrative and legal measures as investigations progress.
