Chhattisgarh Operation Kills Six Maoists, Including Leaders Buchanna and Urmila

Police describe a blow to CPI (Maoist) networks with forensic analysis of seized devices now underway.

Overview

  • Authorities confirmed the identities of six cadres slain on November 11 in Bijapur’s Indravati National Park area, including senior operatives Buchanna (Kanna) and Urmila.
  • The joint operation by DRG units from Bijapur and Dantewada with the STF followed intelligence on the presence of top leaders and led to prolonged exchanges of fire.
  • Recovered items included two INSAS rifles, a 9mm carbine, a .303 rifle, a single-shot gun, a 12-bore firearm, grenades, ammunition, communication sets, Maoist literature, uniforms and medical supplies.
  • The six carried a cumulative reward of ₹27 lakh, with ₹8 lakh each on Buchanna and Urmila, whom police link to major attacks and the PLGA logistics network respectively.
  • Officials say some senior figures, including those targeted in the intel-led sweep, escaped the site as investigators examine documents and digital material for links to urban support networks.
