Chhattisgarh Opens First School-Based Space Centre, Plans Rollout to Every District

The Antariksh Sangwari hub will train students in satellite building for weather and agriculture applications.

  • Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai inaugurated the Antariksh Sangwari space centre on February 3 at Government Higher Secondary School in Rakhi, Nava Raipur.
  • The chief minister said similar centres will be established across all districts to nurture scientific temper in students, with implementation details yet to be outlined.
  • The centre was developed with the Raipur district administration, IDYM Foundation and the SARDA Group.
  • Reported features include a clean room, a student satellite laboratory, a ground station and a mission control centre, with programmes to teach satellite construction, tracking, weather forecasting and cloud mapping.
  • At the launch event, Sai and astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla initiated a student-built rocket from Jashpur that organizers said used cardboard and PVC, and Shukla shared highlights from his recent ISS mission.
