Chhattisgarh Forces Seize Major Maoist Arms Cache in Abujhmad, Recover Bastar’s First Trichy Assault Rifle

Investigators are examining whether the recovered Trichy rifle was looted from security forces.

Overview

  • Police say a five-day operation from August 24 to 29 across Abujhmad located a Maoist munitions dump after multiple firefights.
  • The joint DRG, STF and ITBP teams recovered more than 300 items, including an LMG, SLR, INSAS, a 51mm mortar, BGLs, grenades, detonators, cordex and safety fuses.
  • Officials reported exchanges with the Maad division and found blood stains and drag marks at encounter sites, indicating possible injuries before cadres fled.
  • Authorities confirmed the Bastar range’s first seizure of a Trichy Assault Rifle and are verifying its provenance through databases, saying it may have been looted earlier.
  • Police also seized long pipes and said Maoists were working to assemble launchers to fire BGL shells at roughly 300 metres, while a suspected abduction-killing in neighbouring Bijapur is under investigation.
