Overview

  • The Corvette ZR1X posted the fastest U.S.-built production car lap at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, eclipsing Ford’s Mustang GTD with a 6:49.275-minute time.
  • The standard Corvette ZR1 also surpassed the previous American benchmark by completing the circuit in 6:50.763 minutes.
  • GM relied on its own development drivers—Drew Cattell in the ZR1X, Brian Wallace in the ZR1 and Aaron Link in the Z06—for all record attempts instead of professional racers.
  • The ZR1X pairs a 5.5-liter twin-turbo LT7 V8 with an electric front axle to deliver 1,250 hp, supported by carbon ceramic brakes, advanced aerodynamics and Michelin Cup 2R tires.
  • Even after claiming the American title, the ZR1X remains just over a second behind the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, which holds a 6:48.047-minute lap record.
