Overview
- Shaun M. Boker was taken into custody in Portsmouth after a brief standoff early Thursday and later died at Maryview Hospital from a reported medical emergency
- Boker faced charges including first-degree murder, two counts each of attempted murder and aggravated malicious wounding of law enforcement officers, three felony firearm counts, and discharge of a firearm in an occupied dwelling
- Chesapeake officers responding to a domestic assault call at a Willow Bridge Court apartment were shot through the door and discovered a woman with fatal gunshot wounds
- The two officers wounded in the exchange suffered non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released from the hospital, police said
- The ATF is supporting the Chesapeake Police Department and Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations is probing both the domestic shooting and Boker’s in-custody death
