Overview
- Chery confirmed on Friday that it will introduce four new or refreshed models in the UK over the next 12 months, including a pure-electric SUV and a flagship Tiggo X with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
- The company says its Super Hybrid system now drives roughly three quarters of UK sales; Super Hybrid is Chery’s in-house package that pairs a turbo petrol engine with one or two electric motors and staged gearing to allow long electric running.
- Since launching the Chery brand in mid-2025 the company has registered more than 29,000 cars and the brand holds about 2.5% of the UK market while Chinese marques collectively account for over a fifth of sales.
- Chery will open a small R&D ‘translation’ centre at UTAC Millbrook in late autumn to tune suspension, driver-assist settings and infotainment to British preferences before sending changes back to engineers in China.
- To ease shipping bottlenecks the company is discussing possible local assembly using spare capacity at Nissan’s Sunderland plant but has made no final commitment and any UK production would take time to agree and start.
