Chennai Weather Eases to Light Showers as IMD Warns of Rough Bay Conditions

Forecasts point to a broader drop in rainfall across Tamil Nadu following a change in winds, with temperatures near 30°C and humidity staying high.

Overview

  • Rainfall intensity has weakened across the state, and Chennai is set for partly cloudy skies with isolated light showers on December 8, according to the Regional Meteorological Department.
  • IMD’s yellow alert covered Sunday as thunderstorms and lightning persisted in parts of the city even after Cyclone Ditwah weakened.
  • Officials expect light to moderate rain at one or two places through December 9, followed by isolated light rain across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal through December 13.
  • A marine advisory cautions that a system may develop over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal with winds of 35–45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph, and fishermen have been told not to venture into those sea areas.
  • Daytime highs near 30°C and minimums around 24°C are forecast for Chennai with high humidity, and slightly cooler early mornings are likely as northerly winds strengthen.
