Chennai To Launch Unified QR Ticketing as CM Stalin Unveils 25-Year Mobility Plan Next Week

The roadmap spans 5,904 sq km through 2048 to build an integrated, safe, sustainable transport system.

Overview

  • The state scheduled the unveiling for CUMTA’s second governing board meeting at the State Secretariat, according to an official release.
  • Alongside the plan, the Chennai One Mobility app will debut on iOS and Android with journey planning, real-time tracking, and UPI or card payments.
  • Its ‘One City, One Ticket’ feature will let riders use a single QR code across buses, metro and suburban rail, described by officials as a first in an Indian city.
  • The app will be available in Tamil, English, Telugu and Hindi, with officials saying it should reduce ticket queues and simplify transfers between modes.
  • The CMP targets a higher public-transport share, fare affordability, full integration of bus, metro and para-transit, and lower emissions through non-motorised and eco-friendly options, which planners say could guide other metros.
