Chennai Launches ‘Chennai One’ Unified Transit App as State Approves 25-Year Mobility Plan

Officials pitch the move as a step toward faster, cleaner commutes through higher public transport use.

Overview

  • Chief Minister M.K. Stalin unveiled the Chennai One app and cleared the Comprehensive Mobility Plan at CUMTA’s second governing board meeting on Monday.
  • The app introduces a single QR ticket usable across Chennai Metro, MTC buses, Namma Yatri autos, and taxis, with MRTS and suburban trains to be added soon, according to CUMTA.
  • Commuters can plan trips, track services in real time, and pay via UPI or cards, with the app available on iOS and Android and supporting multiple languages including Tamil and English.
  • CUMTA describes Chennai One as India’s first integrated QR-based public-transport ticketing and journey-planner platform.
  • The CMP spans 5,904 sq km through 2048 and sets a roadmap to raise public and non-motorised transport share, ease congestion, and cut emissions.
