A 38-year-old man is on trial in Chemnitz for allegedly helping a 29-year-old acquaintance amputate three fingers with a machete in August 2023.
The alleged victim, a former member of the neo-Nazi scene, falsely claimed the injury was caused by an attack from left-wing extremists.
Investigators discovered the incident was staged as part of a plan to fraudulently claim disability benefits, with the injured man later disseminating the false narrative on far-right Telegram channels.
The accused denies directly carrying out the act, stating he backed out due to moral hesitation, at which point the alleged victim reportedly injured himself with the machete.
The trial continues, with further hearings scheduled for December, while the alleged victim is also under investigation for fabricating the crime.
