Chelyabinsk Hit-and-Run Driver Gets 14-Day Arrest as Omsk Crash Probe Continues and Road Agency Denies Fault

  • A magistrate in Chelyabinsk ordered 14 days of administrative arrest and a one-year driving disqualification for the Hyundai driver who fled a crash and later injured the other motorist.
  • Traffic police said the December 22 incident began when a Hyundai struck a Nissan at a red light, fled, then accelerated as the Nissan driver approached, carrying him on the hood and causing injuries before escaping again.

  • The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case over traffic-rule violations and unsafe services, and in a separate incident near Kaliningrad seven vehicles collided with no injuries reported as traffic police worked the scene.
