Chelsea's Romeo Lavia Out for at Least a Month With Quad Injury

Persistent fitness setbacks since his £53m arrival have left the midfielder on a tightly managed workload.

Overview

  • Lavia suffered the quadriceps injury four minutes into Chelsea’s 2-2 Champions League draw at Qarabag last week.
  • He is expected to miss matches against Burnley, Barcelona, Arsenal, Leeds United, Bournemouth and Atalanta.
  • Chelsea have limited his minutes to roughly one game per week, yet he has still not completed a full 90 minutes for the club.
  • Since joining from Southampton in 2023, he has made 29 appearances and missed about 88 games through various muscle problems.
  • Head coach Enzo Maresca called the setback “a shame” and said they “need to insist” until they find the right solution, with a mid-December return viewed as possible if recovery goes to plan.
