Chelsea Sale Accounts Show £923m Net Proceeds Intended for War Victims

Loans disclosed by Fordstam, alongside UK sanctions, keep the £2.35bn sale proceeds locked pending an OFSI licence.

Overview

  • Much-delayed Fordstam accounts, signed on October 10, 2025, state that only the “net proceeds” of the 2022 Chelsea sale will be gifted to a war-victims charity and report net assets of £922.9m.
  • The filings list substantial creditor claims, including about £1.429bn owed to Camberley International Investments Limited, which would be settled before any charitable transfer.
  • All £2.35bn from the sale remains frozen in Fordstam’s bank account, with any payment prohibited until the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation issues a licence.
  • A UK government statement in June said it was fully prepared to go to court to limit spending to humanitarian projects in Ukraine, while Abramovich is reported to prefer helping all victims of the war.
  • The accounts confirm Blueco 22 withheld £150m to cover pre-acquisition liabilities and now values recovery at nil, as Chelsea also faces fallout from self-reported irregular payments, including a €10m UEFA fine and 74 FA charges.
