Chelsea Football Club has publicly condemned the online racist abuse directed towards their player, Lauren James.
James, a standout player for England during the 2023 World Cup, was also targeted with online abuse in 2021 while playing for Manchester United.
The abuse followed Chelsea's 4-1 loss to Arsenal in the Women's Super League, during which James was involved in a controversial incident with Arsenal's Lia Walti.
Chelsea's loss to Arsenal erased their three-point lead in the league, leaving them level with Arsenal and three points ahead of Manchester City.
Chelsea has vowed to take action against any individual they can identify as being involved in the abuse.
