Cheiron Subsidiary Named Majority Operator of Peru’s Lote 192

The move requires a minimum US$230 million to rebuild roads, pumps and wells to enable a planned restart of production in about 18 months.

Overview

  • The executive published Supreme Decree No. 023‑2026‑EM on Friday, Oct. 23, authorizing Petroloreto S.A.C. to join Lote 192 and prompting Petroperú and Perupetro to sign associative agreements the following day.
  • Under the agreements, Petroloreto — a subsidiary of Cheiron Holdings Egypt Limited — will hold 75% and operate the field while Petroperú retains 25% for a 27‑year term.
  • Perupetro said it reviewed audited financials and other documentation and found Cheiron met the economic, technical and legal requirements to qualify as the strategic partner.
  • The reactivation program sets a minimum investment of about US$230 million to repair infrastructure, replace submersible pumps, build roughly 600 km of access roads and carry out well rehabilitation and new drilling.
  • Lote 192 has estimated recoverable reserves above 120 million barrels and more than 700 million barrels of historical output, but rapid ownership changes, outstanding debts and major repairs create real uncertainty about the schedule and delivery of production and local jobs.
