Overview
- Prabhash and Pavak, six-year-old male cheetahs, were released into Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday evening.
- The cheetahs were transported by road from Kuno National Park, covering a distance of over 250 kilometers across Neemuch and Mandsaur districts.
- Originally brought from South Africa's Waterberg Biosphere Reserve in February 2023, the cheetahs had spent two years in Kuno National Park before relocation.
- Kuno National Park continues to house 26 cheetahs, including 14 cubs born in India, as part of the intercontinental translocation project launched in 2022.
- The National Tiger Conservation Authority is preparing to import eight additional cheetahs from Botswana, with the first phase expected by May 2025.
