Overview
- The Confederación Hidrográfica del Duero (CHD) has started the first phase of draining the El Tejo reservoir in El Espinar, Segovia, on May 26, 2025.
- The process involves opening the reservoir's bottom outlets for 16 hours daily over approximately two weeks.
- This phase is expected to reduce the water level by 4.5 meters and decrease the reservoir's stored volume by 34%.
- Hydrological and hydraulic engineering work, as well as drainage tests, were conducted in recent months to ensure safety and assess infrastructure behavior.
- Reservoirs in the Duero basin are currently at 90.4% capacity, storing 2,581.2 cubic hectometres of water, which is above the decennial average.
