Overview
- CMPD identified Oscar Solarzano, 33, and charged him with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, and intoxicated and disruptive behavior.
- Police said the victim was stabbed near North Brevard and East 22nd streets Friday around 4:50 p.m. and remained in critical but stable condition at a local hospital.
- An arrest warrant alleges Solarzano appeared intoxicated, challenged the rider to a fight, broke into a rail car, and used a large fixed-blade knife.
- A magistrate noted he is in the U.S. unlawfully with previous deportations; DHS says ICE has lodged a detainer and cites prior arrests and convictions, and jail records show he is being held without bond.
- The case drew immediate political reaction, including a Truth Social post by President Donald Trump, and follows August’s fatal Blue Line stabbing as Charlotte increases transit safety measures before Solarzano’s Monday court appearance.
