Charlotte Light Rail Stabbing: 33-Year-Old Charged With Attempted Murder

Police report a swift arrest on attempted-murder charges, with the victim in stable condition.

Overview

  • CMPD identified the suspect as Oscar Solarzano, 33, who was arrested shortly after the Friday attack and transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Authorities say he faces five counts: attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, and being intoxicated and disruptive.
  • The victim was found just before 5 p.m. on a train near North Brevard Street and East 22nd Street and was taken to Novant Health Presbyterian in serious but stable condition, according to EMS.
  • Court records reported by media allege Solarzano was intoxicated on the train, challenged the victim to a fight, and had previously been deported, with no bond set.
  • The stabbing comes months after a fatal Blue Line attack that led to a federal indictment in that case, and police are asking witnesses to contact Charlotte Crime Stoppers.
