Charlotte Double Homicide Suspect Arrested in Florida After Traffic Stop

A tip led Florida officers to the suspect’s car, resulting in a cross-state arrest as he awaits extradition.

  • Port St. Lucie police were alerted around 1:30 a.m. Friday to a black Nissan Altima tied to the case and conducted a felony traffic stop near SE Port St. Lucie Boulevard and SE Seafury Lane.
  • The suspect, 38-year-old Alvaro Luis Ozuna Sierra, was taken into custody without incident and is charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
  • He is being held without bond at the St. Lucie County Jail pending extradition to Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
  • Charlotte-Mecklenburg officers responded Thursday to the 4400 block of Eddleman Road and later identified the two victims as Pankaj Patel and Anikumar Patel, both 54.
  • Investigators have not determined Sierra’s motive or any ties to Port St. Lucie, and CMPD detectives traveled to Florida to interview him.
