Albin led Ohio to its first MAC Championship since 1968 with a dominant 38-3 win over Miami University, capping a 10-3 season and a six-game win streak.
Over four seasons at Ohio, Albin compiled a 33-19 record, including three consecutive 10-win seasons and two bowl victories.
Charlotte dismissed former coach Biff Poggi in November after a 6-16 record over two seasons; Albin will lead the program's rebuild in the American Athletic Conference.
Albin brings extensive coaching experience, including a national championship at Northwestern Oklahoma State in 1999 and two MAC Coach of the Year honors.
