Both players achieved their scores on the Nicklaus Tournament Course, with Hoffman recording 10 birdies and Hoey delivering a strong back nine performance.
Justin Lower, Mark Hubbard, and Sepp Straka are one stroke behind at 15-under, while Jason Day and J.J. Spaun remain in contention at 14-under.
The tournament features a unique three-course rotation, with the cut occurring after the third round on Saturday, narrowing the field for Sunday’s final round at the Stadium Course.
