Charing Cross Sergeant Dismissed Over Panorama Footage of 'Beaten Up' Remark

It is the sixth dismissal linked to the BBC investigation, with further hearings scheduled.

Overview

  • An accelerated misconduct hearing found Sgt Lawrence Hume’s comments amounted to gross misconduct and he was dismissed without notice.
  • The panel, chaired by Commander Jason Prins, ruled he breached standards of discreditable conduct and authority, respect and courtesy.
  • Two further allegations relating to remarks about recording use of force and failing to challenge another sergeant’s comments were found not proven.
  • Hume will be placed on the College of Policing’s Barred List, preventing re-employment in policing or related bodies.
  • The Met says hearings for PC Sean Park and former PC Brian Sharkey will take place later this month, a hearing for Sgt Steve Stamp is pending, and the IOPC’s wider investigation continues.
