Chargers Put Rookie RB Omarion Hampton on IR, Promote Kimani Vidal and Sign Nyheim Hines

The 53-man roster now carries two running backs following Najee Harris' season-ending Achilles tear.

Overview

  • Los Angeles placed first-round pick Omarion Hampton on injured reserve with an ankle injury, making him ineligible for at least the next four games.
  • Hampton was hurt late in the third quarter of Sunday’s loss to Washington and had logged 314 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, and 20 catches for 136 yards in five games.
  • In a corresponding move, the Chargers signed Kimani Vidal from the practice squad to the active roster, leaving him and Hassan Haskins as the only running backs on the 53-man roster.
  • Veteran Nyheim Hines joined the practice squad after a workout and reunites with the team following his stint in training camp.
  • Hines has not appeared in an NFL game since 2023 and owns 1,202 rushing yards with 10 rushing touchdowns plus 240 receptions for 1,778 yards and eight receiving scores in 81 regular-season games.
