Overview
- The Chargers released Ben Cleveland on Monday after a recent arrest, freeing a spot on their 90-man training camp roster.
- Cleveland was arrested in February 2025 in Baldwin County, Ga., where a Breathalyzer showed a .178 blood-alcohol reading and he later received a three-game suspension from the NFL.
- The Ravens waived Cleveland after that suspension and the Chargers signed him to the practice squad and then to a one-year reserve/future deal before cutting him this week.
- A 2021 third-round pick, Cleveland played in 64 NFL games with seven starts and had been used mainly as a depth interior lineman and on special teams, which reduced the on-field cost of releasing him.
- Teams now face a tradeoff between Cleveland’s size and versatility at guard and the repeated legal and discipline issues that have clouded his ability to stay on a roster.
