Chargers Complete Interviews With Three In-House Candidates for Defensive Coordinator

Los Angeles is evaluating continuity under Jim Harbaugh after Jesse Minter left to become the Ravens’ head coach.

The team said it finished interviews with outside linebackers coach Dylan Roney, safeties coach Adam Fuller, and defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale.
Los Angeles has also met with external options Zach Orr of the Ravens and Aubrey Pleasant of the Rams, while earlier interviewee Dennard Wilson is no longer available.
Clinkscale is widely viewed as the most ready internal option given his co-defensive coordinator experience at Michigan and his current role overseeing the Chargers’ secondary.
Roney’s candidacy follows a 2025 season in which Chargers outside linebackers fueled a 45-sack total, including 13 from Tuli Tuipulotu and 7.5 from midseason addition Odafe Oweh.
Fuller, a longtime college coordinator in his first NFL season, coached an All-Pro Derwin James to a top-10 PFF grade and rotated Elijah Molden, Tony Jefferson, RJ Mickens, and Alohi Gilman at the other safety spot.
