Char Dham Yatra 2025 Begins with Gangotri and Yamunotri Portals Open

Overview

  • Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines reopened on April 30, 2025, marking the start of the Char Dham Yatra on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya.
  • Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in both portal openings, becoming the first CM to attend the Yamunotri ceremony.
  • Nearly 6,000 security personnel, drones, and over 2,000 CCTV cameras have been deployed to ensure safety along the pilgrimage routes.
  • Over ₹1,600 crore has been invested under the PRASHAD scheme to enhance infrastructure, including approval for a 12.9-km ropeway to Kedarnath.
  • The Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines are set to open on May 2 and May 4, respectively, completing the sacred circuit.
