Overview

  • Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen announced misdemeanor cruelty charges on August 7 against Jennifer Bryant for neglecting Honey’s care.
  • Prosecutors allege Honey was found emaciated, worm-infested and suffering heat stroke before collapsing and being euthanized in Milpitas in July 2024.
  • A March 2024 inspection at Bear Creek Stables in Los Gatos prompted a veterinarian to prescribe alfalfa hay and a follow-up exam that Bryant did not schedule.
  • Bryant, 25, is slated for arraignment on August 11 at San Jose’s Hall of Justice and could face up to one year behind bars if convicted.
  • Chaparral Ranch and its parent company were removed from Golden Gate Park last year after a whistleblower report detailed unsafe conditions for animals and workers.
