Overview
- Chandigarh’s administration, which met Thursday under Chief Secretary H Rajesh Prasad, cleared a new bridge to replace the low causeway between Sector 26 and Manimajra.
- The project costs Rs 16.63 crore and features dual four-lane carriageways with separate footpaths and cycle tracks built with advanced RCC and precast parts for faster, durable work.
- Design details include a 500-metre length, a 26.6-metre width, and two 28.5-metre spans with efficient drainage to keep the link open during heavy rain.
- Work is slated to start in July 2026 after tendering, with officials setting a 12-month construction target.
- The upgrade follows years of jams and monsoon closures on the narrow causeway, which even suffered flood damage in July 2023, and it is expected to speed trips to key spots such as Sukhna Lake, Sector 17, PGIMER, Panjab University, and the High Court.
