Chandigarh and Hyderabad Police Step Up Multi-State Raids on Cyber-Fraud Networks

Investigators are using I4C mapping to trace mule accounts to cross-border networks.

Overview

  • Chandigarh’s Cyber Crime unit conducted 56 raids across 10 states from January to August, arresting 109 suspects and freezing ₹2.91 crore.
  • The Chandigarh crackdown seized 170 mobile phones, five laptops and six SIM boxes, revealing interconnected modules operating across state lines.
  • Probes in Chandigarh identified a syndicate based in Cambodia, Hong Kong, Laos and Myanmar running IVR-based “digital arrest” scams that impersonate police.
  • Hyderabad police arrested 61 individuals across 14 states in a month-long operation and facilitated victim refunds totaling ₹1.01 crore.
  • Officers cite VoIP, VPNs and spoofed numbers, plus jurisdictional paperwork delays despite the Samanvya Portal, even as I4C’s Pratibimb flags local mule accounts and banks are warned to monitor abnormal withdrawals.
