Chancay Port Now Handles Most Peruvian Agroexports to China, Mincetur Says

Official data show a rapid shift of Peru’s China-bound farm trade to a new hub serving inland growers.

Overview

  • Between January and September 2025, 62% of Peru’s agricultural exports to China—US$210 million of US$338 million—were shipped via the Chancay terminal.
  • Since opening in November 2024, the port has handled US$477 million in exports, with China accounting for 78% of shipments moved from the facility.
  • About 69% of cargo through Chancay originates in interior regions, led by La Libertad (44%), Lambayeque (8%) and Ica (7%).
  • Agro products make up 57% of the value moved—chiefly blueberries, avocados, grapes and mandarins—with fisheries at 17%, minerals at 16% and chemicals at 9%.
  • Throughput is estimated at about 350,000 TEU in 2025 and projected to exceed 700,000 TEU in 2026, supported by a multistage investment plan of roughly US$3.9 billion.
