Challenges Filed Over Lula Interview Recorded at Alvorada

The complaints ask judges to bar use of presidential residences for campaign content and could force the TSE to apply past limits on official broadcasts.

The interview with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was recorded at the Palácio da Alvorada and aired by TV Record on Sunday, Aug. 23 during a televised debate hosted by Bandeirantes.
State deputy Guto Zacarias lodged a notícia de fato with the Procuradoria Geral da República alleging misuse of public property and citing Article 73 of the Electoral Law and Complementary Law 64/1990.
Senator Flávio Bolsonaro’s campaign filed a separate representation at the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral seeking orders to bar Lula from using the Alvorada or other exclusive public buildings for electoral material and to block use of the interview in campaign ads.
Both filings ask for fact-finding on who prepared and supported the interview and cite a 2022 TSE precedent that restricted use of presidential premises for electoral transmissions.
No prosecutorial or court rulings have been issued yet and the cases could lead to administrative sanctions or questions of candidacy if authorities find a prohibited use of public assets.
