Chalk the Block Opens in Downtown El Paso for 18th Year

The free festival introduces Quiet Hours with sensory kits to broaden access.

Overview

  • The free event runs Saturday 10 a.m.–10 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. across San Jacinto Plaza and the Downtown Arts District, organized by the City’s Museums and Cultural Affairs Department with the El Paso Community Foundation and presented by Raiz Federal Credit Union.
  • Each morning features Quiet Hours from 10 a.m. to noon in a lower-sensory environment, with sensory kits available at the El Paso Museum of History and the Mexican American Cultural Center.
  • Large-scale installations include artist Caroline Kamm’s inflatable banana, “Pequeña,” measuring 40 feet long and 18 feet tall.
  • Additional installations activate Cleveland Square with works reported from a Belgian artist and Colorado artists, alongside programming by La Nube and the Mexican American Cultural Center.
  • Chalk Art Awards are set for 1 p.m. Sunday, and the temporary murals will be removed after 6 p.m. that day.
